Run As One:
Chapter Ten

With willpower and a stroke of luck, the pack made it to the river undetected by the....whatever they were. However, Augustine, Molly and Tabor were still not back yet. Nadine was bleeding a bit and Kenny was more skiddish then ever before, what was Mercie to do? Better yet- what were those things out there?

ROA:Ch10 pt1

The monstrous wolves opened their jaws and growled, looking hungrily at the black wolf. Augustine was much larger then Molly, making him a better target. As he had planned, the mutants barreled after him.

"Way to go!" Molly snarled, glancing to where she thought Augustine was. When she didn't see him or the mutant wolves, she halted her sprint. "Augustine?!" He was no where in sight. As if worried, she turned and started to head back towards the danger.

"Molly!" Tabor cried. "Wrong way!" He then noticed Augustine wasn't behind them and started to understand why she was heading back. Without thinking about it, a snarl formed on his lips. He pushed it back, rather surprised with his sudden lack of control. "Come on!" he said, nodding northwards.

Augustine was fast for his size. He looked behind himself and smirked to see the two beasts following him. Being cocky and loving danger, the fact that two massive wolf eating monsters were on his tail only excited him. He weaved through the trees and underbrush, trying to concoct a plan.

Molly hesitated from the sound of Tabor's voice. She stopped and looked at the wilderness in front of her with a mournful expression. Going against what she thought was right, Molly turned and ran along with Tabor.

Even though he was a wolf, Tabor was pretty with directions. After a little ways he asked, "We're heading north, right?" He was pretty sure she was thinking about Augustine, and Tabor wanted to cheer her up.

"Yes." Molly replied, following her nose. "Augustine's trial seems to be leading us back to that den I was talking about." The fact that she brought him up, signaled that she was worried and trying her best not to run back.

"Well that was dumb of him..." Tabor said, unhappy the ex was being mentioned. "If we can follow it, they can." This entire situation seemed like a mess. Just a few days ago, everything was fine and happy. Then Augustine showed up, followed by killer machines and mutant monster things. When it rains, it pours.

Molly sniffed a bit and changed her direction a little. "Tabor- thank you for bringing me to that town this morning." she said between pants. If they had waited any longer, all three surely would've been killed. Since those creatures seemed to of been made by humans, no way they would go into

"Don't bother Molly..." Tabor said in as gentle a voice as he could muster while panting. "You never need to thank me for anything."

"If we left any later-" Molly trailed off, jumping over a fallen tree. "-it would have been bad." She sniffed again, changing her path. "I think it's about two more miles."

"But what if we could run it off into another one of these things?" Mercie asked "Maybe we can take out a bunch of them at once? None of us know how to drive it, we could end up destroying it before we had a chance to use it against them."

Nadine didnt stop walking as she spoke. "Do you see any others around? If we dont take advantage of the situation now then they will return and take it away and we will have nothing to show for it!"

"Let's... lets just steal it... real quickly" Kenny said, slowly starting to pulls his claws from the ground and staring fixedly at the monster of a machine "And we have time to see how it works now, if we suddenly had to drive one later I'd rather we had some practise first."

Mercie didn't like it one bit, she wished Molly where here to decide. There was no way she could convince these two any way. "Alright, but we bail at the first sign of trouble."

"So we stealing it or we trashing it?" Nadine said as she picked up her pace and trptted up to the Machine. She switched to her human form once she check to make sure the coast was clear and no one or thing would see her. "Where's the hood open lever?"

Kenny scrabbled up after her, changing into his own human form and standing beside her, looking around the driver's area in a vain attempt to find any switches that seemed important.

Mercie climbed up next to Kenny "Steal it if we can." she looked at the console and levers that made the ting work, she pointed at a ketch lever under the console "Pull that, it looks like it might release the hood."

Nadine quickly reached down and pulled the lever hoping that it did infact pop the hood. She knew that if the blades started or anything else loud and frightening that Kenny would be in the next state in a matter of minutes.

Luckily for them, the small yellow painted hood clicked and released. However, on the left of the console, the key was in the ignition. They were way up north in the middle of nowhere, who would steal their machines?

Molly and Tabor were nearby and the pack could easily smell them coming based upon the direction of the wind. The two wolves were stuck at the river, where the pack had got rid of their scent trail. "Hm.... I can't tell where they've gone." She sat down and took a deep breath. Leaning her head back, she howled lowly. It was just enough for the creatures in a mile's radius to hear. Molly didn't want any more of those mutants hearing it, so she kept the frequency low.

Tabor winced, thinking this was pretty risky. He had the mental image of the two beasts, crouching over dead Augustine and gobbling him up, lifting their heads into the air and charging this way. He, of course, didn't want to share this thought with Molly. He kept it to himself and stayed alert.

Kenny perked his ears up, looking around at the sound of howling... He couldn't tell who it was yet though, he was still new to the pack. "Someone call back" he said, moving around to the hood of the machine and opening it quickly, finding opposable thumbs helpful as he stared into the depths of the gears and sprockets.

"Ah...Keys." Nadine said as she reached over to them. "Watch your head and hands Kenny!" she hollered, giving him a few seconds to clear out she turned the keys hoping it would start up easily.

The engine revved up immediately. The machine vibrated as it warmed up. Smoke billowed from two pipes above the cabin. The blades and arms weren't turning...yet.

Molly perked her head up from the sound of a machine. Her ears bowed back. "They can't be here already...." she said, worried. "Do you think they heard me?" she asked Tabor.

"CALL!" Kenny parked, gazing from the machine's whirring engine to the forest around them "Call or she won't know it's us!" Trying to howl over the engine, Kenny shifted right back to his wolf form, standing firmly as he let out a loud howl, trying to tell them they were alright and close.

"Ha, ha!" Nadine said as the engine revved to life. She bounced up and down in the driver's seat like a child going to see the latest Disney movie as she grabbed the steering wheel. She let out a long human howl, not thinking to switch to wolf form.

"Stay with her!" Mercie yelled over the volume of the machiene and broke from Nadiene and Kenny. She traveled only until she found a small knoll that would hamper the roar of the machine over her voice. She loosed three rolling howls, her voice ringing like a bell threw the trees, hopefully carrying over the sound of the machiene.

"Come on Kenny! Hop on!" Nadine shouted excitedly as she examined the controls and found the gas and brakes and possible a clutch.. "Lets take this thing into town and show them how it feels to have their houses tore up!" she added emphasis to this by pumping the gas.

Molly's ear perked up. The two of them were just able to hear Mercie's call through the woods. "Tabor, let's hurry-" She started to move again, picking up into a run.

Tabor had only just caught his breath, and now they were running again. He didn't complain though. He loyally ran a few steps behind her, hoping the pack was alright.

Mercie called again, unsure of weather or not Molly had heard them. Nervous that Nadine and Kenny might get into trouble she turned and headed back towards them as quickly as she could.

Molly and Tabor weren't very far from the others. They ran out into the clearing where they could see the large yellow machine and their pack trying to drive it. The rest of the area was flattened and destroyed. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" she shouted. She had only been exposed to Augustine for a day and already her language had worsened.

Tabor's jaw dropped, but after a moment of zero brain activity he became very excited. "That is so cool!" he exclaimed. "Molly! We've gotta... Wow! Oh geez, we've gotta ride that!"

"Ride it?! We've got to shut it off before they alert all the humans where we are!!" Molly shouted, pissed that Mercie had let those two bozos get that far out of control. This was definitely good, they could see how the machines worked and the weak spots...but joyriding was a definite no.

"I'm so glad your back." Mercie exclaimed "I wanted to wait for you but they insisted." She leaned in close to Molly and whispered "Please don't leave me in charge again." She gave her a good natured shoulder bump.

Kenny had scrabbled to the top of the machine, turning human again so he could hang off the edge of the machine, gazing down at the other wolves. "Look" he said loudly over the roar of the machine "We look at this thing, we learn it, maybe even drive it off a cliff! Just take it out of their hands at least!"

"I'm so glad you guys are alright. We were so worried..." Molly said, trying to refrain from being angry. She was so glad they were safe and sound, but the loud motor of the deforestation machine was giving her head headache. Her hairs flared up and she looked from Mercie to the two in the machine. "TURN THAT OFF!! DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO HEAR YOU?!" she barked loudly.

Nadine's excited smile turned to an angry frown at Molly's order. She revved up the engine really loud before letting the gas go amd turning off the machine. She took the keys out and hung them along with the dog tags on her neck as she swung around to peer into the engine.

"We figured we could use it against the bad guys." Mercie told Molly "I think Auggy might know more about how to drive it..." She paused, realizing he wasn't with them "Where is he?"

Molly's ear twitched and she looked at her second in command. "He decided that he wanted to be an idiot and play hero." she looked away and growled, obviously a bit upset. "Ran off with two of those...things following him."

Mercie's ears dropped "He what?" She may not exactly like Auggy but she certainly want to imagine him alone, in the woods, being ran down by two of those things.

"Just as I said!!" Molly snapped back at Mercie with a bit more anger then she had intended. Realizing she went overboard, Molly took a breath to calm herself. So much was going wrong at once. Augustine returning, having to give up her pups so suddenly, mutant wolves terrorizing her den and her pack...and now Augustine was probably being ripped to shreds by those things! The fact that she cared so much about his well being made her feel a bit sick. Did she still love him after everything they've been through? To apologize, Molly brushed up against Mercie.

"He's smart." Mercie told her "He'll have figured out how to get away."

When Molly had yelled at the new wolves, Tabor felt very childish for wanting to play with the thing. Then Augustine was mentioned... happy day. Wanting to changed the subject he said, "I could maybe drive that thing," he offered. "I've taken driver's ed. If it's anything like a car I can get it moving..."

From under the hood came a shout. "Oh hell no! I got dibs on driving this thing!" Nadine peaked out from behind the hood to glare as strong as she could at them to get across her point. She had located some vital wires and hoses and wasnt advertant to ripping them out.

"Definitely not, young lady!" Molly called to Nadine. Her motherly instincts were taking charge again. Molly knew that Nadine couldn't be anything over 15...definitely not qualified to drive something like that.

"The longer we stand around arguing the more chance they'll catch us!" Kenny pointed out, his temper getting shorter and shorter as the noise got to him and the shouting rang in his ears. "Someone do something before I just decide that it's not worth all this aggravation and PEE IN THE GAS TANK!"

Molly flat out ignored Kenny's threat. Maybe that guy wasn't all there...she couldn't tell. "I wonder if the humans left any more around here..." She glanced around the wasteland, not seeing anything just yet.

"It makes sense," Mercie said "Unless they left it out here thinking they could bait us with it..."

"Human's arent that smart." Nadine said as she popped out a sparkplug and plopped it into a pocket before hopping down from the vehicle, not bothering to hold her skirt down as she fell. "They probably got really drunk and thought this was a good place to put it."

"So uh... am I gonna drive it?" asked Tabor hopefully, flashing a little smile. He really really wanted to. It was quiet possibly one of the coolest things he had ever seen.

"I don't even know that we should drive it." Molly said, shifting human. She jogged towards it and stared up at the massive blades. "Anyone have a guess as to what the hell those things were?" she asked the group, referring to the mutants.

"They looked sort of pieced together." Mercie said "Like a monster from a bad movie."

"They were big, mean, and seemed hungry." Nadine said as she wiped some grease and grim from her hands onto her skirt. "Does it matter what they are? They obviously want to kill us on sight."

Kenny was getting nervous every second, smacking his fist against the metal side of the van. He really was just going to shut this thing down if someone didn't say something fast. Blood was hanging around his nose, making it impossible to smell anything else; they weren't free of the woods yet.

Molly placed her hands on her hips. "Well- does anyone else find it a bit strange that they showed up right when the humans did? And Tabor and I didn't see or smell the mutant wolves until we were away from the town."

"You think they know we're here and are hunting us?" Mercie asked.

"Probably... but I doubt that's the only objective." Molly suggested. She looked up at the machine, imagining that it's top speed wasn't the most fast or stealthy. To be honest, she didn't know what to do in this situation. The best thing would be to regroup somewhere safe and discuss a plan of action. "Alright- we need to get moving. I don't think standing in one stop for too long is a good idea."

"Um, Im not leaving this thing in running condition." Nadine said pointing her thumb behind her at the giant machine. "Or in easily fixable condition for that matter. If we arent going to take this thing then im tearing it apart."

"We could probably rig this thing to drive off... you know, wedge a stick on the gas pedal and let it loose," suggested Tabor. "That way we can destroy it and it'd be a good distraction."

"What about diving it off the cliffs?" Mercie asked but as soon as she said it she figured the distance would be too far. Surely they'd be discovered.

"This is just one! Didn't you tell us that there were a lot of these machines?" Molly directed to Nadine and Kenny. "We can study this thing and figure out it's weak points." she suggested, "Why would you want to destroy it so soon?"

"Because you wanted to leave." Nadine said in a smartass, duh, kind of way. "Now you want to stay and study it? You are as bad as the humans when it comes to indecisiveness!"

Mercie's hackles raised as Nadiene's voice did. She didn't like it when people shouted at Molly.

"HEY! I just don't want you joy riding like a lunatic!" Molly shouted, still in her human form. There was a lot going on and Molly couldn't think straight. So much was going on and everything was at stake. Exhaling, she jumped high onto part of the machine's arm then jumped again, reaching the control box. "It only takes a single human to control this thing? Maybe two?" They needed to stop fighting and start working together as an actual pack.

Tabor had really wanted to send the machine off on an unstoppable rampage but it was Molly's call. He frowned sadly, turned human and followed Molly. He might be able to help identify controls.

Kenny was making a dent in the metal now, his fist banging into the side of the machine in frustration. Why had they stopped? Why were they TALKING? Why weren't they just taking a spontaneous moment and driving this thing off a cliff? He was going to flip in a second if no one DID anything.

Nadine watched them study the control panel futiley as she knew it wouldnt work because she had the spark plug still in her pocket. She walked over behind the machine and made sure no one was looking before digging a decent hole with her boot and inconspicuously dropped the spark plug into it and then covered it up.

Molly sat in the control seat and looked at the mirrors, then turned her body to look out of the window. "Hey Mercie- stand five feet to the left. I'm going to try and figure out if this thing has a blind spot."

Kenny's pounds started to get louder now, echoing in the machine as he growled loudly. "Why" he hit the metal, a loud "bwong" noise coming from it "don't" hit, bwong "we" bwong "just" bwong "run those" BWONG "DAMNED MONSTERS" BWONG "DOWN WITH THIS THING!? HONESTLY!? I've seen first hand what this can do to a face so lets see if we can't turn those creatures into tossed salad with this machine?! They outsize us with these great big freaks, lets outsize them with their own tools!"

Mercie ignored Kenny as mush as she could while she move to where Molly indicated.

Molly found the blindspot and stepped out of the control booth. "Note where Mercie is, that is the blindspot. I think it will help us when confronting one of these things."

"What about fuel lines?" Mercie asked "My dad had a tractor that was a terror for loosing the fuel line."

"Good, we can do that too." Molly jumped down and looked about the open, torn down forest, "Have you guys spotted any more of these things?"

"I havent exactly been looking out for them." Nadine said as she continued leaning against the giant vehicle. She had been keeping her eyes on Kenny who was acting a lot more aggitated then he usually does. With as unstable as he appeared on a daily basis it had her concerned.

"Well...either way we should get going. The monsters that our den might be able to follow Tabor and my trail." Molly explained.

"Are we gonna break this one first?" Mercie asked. She'd ultimately do whatever Molly said, even if she asked Mercie to sing the the national anthem while balancing a ball on her nose. But she really didn't think leaving this thing here in one piece was a good idea.

"I suppose so. What if we took the key? The humans wouldn't be able to use it tomorrow and we can examine it more tomorrow night and formulate a plan." Molly suggested.

"Nah. they will just go into town and get a spare." Nadine said as if she was a scholar on the ways of humans. "If they left the key in the ignition then they arent that concerned about it getting lost."

"Toss the key here" Kenny said, holding his hand out in mid air and not even looking at anyone else. He knew that they wouldn't... he knew they didn't take a blind bit of notice what he said. He should just go... leave this place before they all got him killed.

"Shouldn't Augistiene have caught up by now?" Mercie asked, more to herself than to anyone else. She disliked the guy almost as much as Molly did but he'd recently risked his life for them and that, in Mercie's book was one step towards redemption. She hated the thought of him laying bloody and broken in a treeless, human scorched forest.

Tabor was trying to make sense of the machine's controls when he heard Mecies's comment and twitched. For one, he was sure the guy was dead and was glad of it, and two, he new it would bother the hell out of Molly and knock her off balance.

Molly's eyebrow twitched. She knew that her and Augustine weren't always on the best of terms but- he was her pup's father and she couldn't hide from the fact that she did love him once. Molly desperately wanted to go search for him, but such a move would be reckless and dangerous for her pack. Holding back, she said, "We can't wait for him."

"Does he know where we'll be going?" Mercie asked "If he's ok maybe he's just on his way there now, wondering where we are and considering leaving to come find us?"

"Maybe." Molly said, knowing it wasn't true. She glanced over to Tabor, knowing that only they know the severity of what happened.

The stillness and simplicities of Molly's answer caused Mercie's chest to ache.

"I've got five dollars that says he's mutant wolf food by now." Nadine said very blatantly. "Good riddance to I think." That part she said more to herself and under her breath.

"FUCK YOU!" Molly growled at Nadine, now in her wolf form. Her fur stood on end down her back. "How dare you say something like that?!" It was fine that Nadine didn't like Augustine...not many did- but to wish death upon them? That's just terrible!

Nadine glared right back, still in her human form she balled her fists. "Fuck you! He is the one you all hate and despise. Always telling him that he isnt part of this pack and doesnt have a say in it and shit like that, but get defensive when someone else says something? Your screwy lady."

Tabor winced and stepped out of the machine, looking down and hoping, Mercie, like always, would do something.

"I hate this group of people" Kenny said conversationally to himself, looking up at the sky from his position by the vehicle "Arguing amongst themselves, proud, arrogant, self-righteous... I mean no one has listened to a work I said, not one, just think I'm nuts and dismiss me; but do I make a fuss, no. Now we sit here, with a pack of mutated wolves out there, maybe still chasing after Augustine, and yell at each other. Well... good bye." He stood up slowly, not even bothering to look at the others as he turned around; doubtless they were ignoring every word of his "I'm going to run now. Because if this is what it takes to stay I don't want to stay. Maybe I'll find Augustine out there, who knows, but I can't stand this any more." With that he shifted into his wolf form, jumping down the side of the machine quickly; he'd prefer to start running from floor level.

Mercie's hackals raised the moment Nadiene's voice rose to shout at Molly but she turned her attention to Kenny. "Do you know why no one listens to you? That's your ONLY answer, to run." And feeling more courage than she had in a while added "Were you neutered, is that why you have no balls?"

"I said I wanted to attack, I said I wanted to RUN THOSE THINGS DOWN!" Kenny yelled back to Mercie "I wanted to attack when we have an advantage! But NO ONE listened to me! It's STUPID to attack when we're practically unarmed and it's STUPID NOT to attack when we have a freaking COMBINE HARVESTER!" He growled, shaking slightly as he glared at everyone "I don't care anymore, I don't care about any of you, I should never have stopped." He turned away again, his tail stiff and hair on end as he forced himself to turn away and not try to rip Mercie's face off.

"None of you listened to me when I said we should know what exactly we're up against." Mercie told him. They'd done nothing but second guess her any way while Molly was away. "I was in favor of finding out where they where and how many of them there are. It won't do us any good to go after them when we're blind. "

Kenny didn't care. He'd left, stalking off into the forest and glaring at the path ahead. He would keep going, find a way out of this place, just keep running until he found somewhere he could settle down. There'd be somewhere, he knew.

Mercie turned back towards Molly and sat her back to the place Kenny disappeared into the trees.

Molly looked at Nadine. She wondered if she would stay with their pack or leave with Kenny. Especially after she had just yelled at her...it didn't seem unlikely. Molly gestured to Tabor to come closer so they could all leave together. With all that had happened, it was difficult to think straight. She needed to lay down soon and collect herself.

Nadine watched as Kenny stormed off with a sigh. She wondered how much of her life was going to be spent reining him in and bringing him back to the pack. She shook her head and shifted into her wolf form and ran after him. "Kenny! Stop for a second Kenny."

Sighing, and eventually stopping, Kenny knew Nadine was the only wolf who could make him do this right now, even if it wasn't perminant. "What?" he barked, trying not to turn it into a growl "What is it?"

Molly watched the two run off silently before looking at Tabor and Molly. "Everything is falling apart, isn't it?" she asked the two seriously.

Tabor winced and shrugged. He didn't want to see Molly so hopeless. He wished he could do something, but she was right. Everything had gone to Hell. He climbed down out of the machine and turned back into a wolf like Molly.

"Did you at least find a good home for the pups?" Mercie asked. If it was the one thing that went well today they could all count their blessings. The next generation was safe and that was at least something.

"Thankfully. I just hope that they are on their best behavior for the humans." Molly said, unable to force a smile.

There was some rustling in the trees. Out stepped Augustine, pale as a ghost, sweating with his arms folded tight to his very bloody chest. He was half lidded and very clearly out of it, yet he still managed to keep walking and smirk. "Surprise," he said weakly.

Mercie was overly shocked to see Augustine and her k-9 jaw hung open in a very human-like expression. "Your alive!" She said, still a bit too shocked to actually move.

Molly felt her stomach leap up into her throat when she heard Augustine's voice. She had never been so happy to see him before. Although excitement turned to worry when she realized the extent of his injury. "Augustine!" Molly ran and shifted human before she reached him. "Did they follow you?" she asked quickly, scooping her arm around his shoulders for support.

"Whats wrong with you now?" Nadine asked as she skidded to a halt next to Kenny. "You cant leave me with these assholes or I may go mad. We have to stick with them until we figure out what these mutant wolf things are and what they want. Cause I know that if one comes after me and you, no amount of running is going to keep us safe."

Kenny squirmed where he stood, eye twitching as he clawed at the floor slightly and growled gently "But everyone's acting so STUPID, I feel like I'm going insane already, and I feel as if I'm going to die if I stay here with these... these... PEOPLE!" He snarled and snapped his jaws together and tensed up, not liking the idea of going back.

Tabor froze when Augy reappeared. He was shocked, disappointed and further shocked that he was so disappointed. Since when did he become an asshole hoping people would die?

If Augustine hadn't been so proud and stubborn he would have just collapsed on the ground. He didn't even lean on Molly for support. He was too bad ass for that. "Nope... I ran them off a cliff," he said.

Molly stayed alongside of Augustine just in case. "Mercie, Tabor..." she looked to the two of them, "We need to get somewhere safe, now. Giant bulldozer or not."

"Well if it werent for them we would probably be dead." Nadine said reluctantly. She hated to admit that she might have actually needed them but it was true. If they hadnt been there for that attack she would be in a stomach right now. "At least I would, you would have ran away." She added with a small smile and chuckle, hoping to calm him down with humor.

"We're not far from the backup den." Mercie told her and then added "If Augustine can make it. They'll be swimming, the gully is deeper where we need to cross but this side is an easier run."

"They're dead," Augustine said. "I saw them squoosh on the rocks. They're pudding." He then looked up at the bulldozer. "What the fuck is that doing here?"

"I would have dragged you free no matter what" Kenny said softly... and it's not like they would have been caught; they would have kept going and not stopped to chat with anyone. They would have escaped and not even met these creatures "They can fight... but only when they've got a monster in their face apparently."

"The humans left it. Only for the night we assume." Molly began, "We were trying to decide what would be the best thing to do with it. Drive it over a cliff, use it against the other machines or learn it's weakspots." Her nostrils filling with the sent of his blood. "But we should probably just leave it and find you somewhere safe. That doesn't look too good-"

Mercie took a seat, waiting to be addressed again. It was ok, she'd gotten used to being ignored.

Augustine's white lips slightly curled. "You stupid? We're definitely not gonna just leave it here.." He suddenly swayed forward and squeezed his eyes shut, trying with all his might not to flop over. He inhaled and recovered, acting like it never happened. "We should learn what we can, then crash the damn thing."

"It's what I was trying to do before Kenny and Nadine split." Molly rushed forward to catch Augustine in case he would tumble. "You really need to be looked at." Molly addressed her two loyalties, Mercie and Tabor. "We need to split up. Someone can take Augustine to the backup den while the others study the excavator."

Tabor stayed quiet and backed up towards the machine. He'd rather continue studying. He glanced at Mercie, hoping she would volunteer to take Augustine.

"I'll go." Mercie said dawning a form with half as many legs, she moved to give Augustine some support before he fell over "I know the way to the backup and we've got those stolen medical supplies from..." She trailed off there, she sensed the coppery taste of blood in the back of her mind and it felt as if she'd bitten down on tin foil. "I can patch him up, (she looked at Auggy) good as new so long as you don't mind sewing thread for stitches."

Augustine again shifted away from any attempt to support him. He inhaled through his teeth, annoyed he had to leave when something so important was happening. "Whatever, just make it quick," said Augustine.

"His clothing needs to be washed too. I don't want to risk those things ambushing us because of the scent." Molly added. She would never admit it, but Molly wished that she could also go with Augustine to the back up den. For some reason, she somewhat felt like he was her responsibility.
"I'm not sure if Kenny and Nadine will be back," Molly looked to Tabor, "But we should really get going and destroy this thing before it gets late." Her attention went back to Augustine and Mercie, "I assume you two haven't eaten either, so we will try to bring something back."

Mercie gave Molly a confident nod "Be careful." and told Auggy "Come on, there's water not far from here and we can get you cleaned up." She too didn't want anything tracking them from Auggy's blood trail. She didn't move to help him again, she'd gotten that message a moment ago.

Nadine shrugged and walked closer to Kenny and nudged his side a bit. "Yea, they seem to fight each other more then they do anything else." She looked back at the group and the new but familiar scent. "Ah man, that Auggy fucker's back."

"You really want to stay here?" Kenny asked, sighing gently and wishing she'd just tell him that she wanted to keep running... He didn't want an adventure, he wanted a life.

"Yea, these people would be lost without us." Nadine said with a smile. "And who else is going to put that wolf in his place."

She was the only link back to their old clan, the only person he really knew here; Kenny nodded towards Nadine, whispering the words "For you" as he turned around and headed back towards the others. This would get him killed... he could tell.

Augustine was more than a little disappointed that he wouldn't be able to destroy this damn thing. He looked up at it with a snarl and slowly walked behind Mercie. He desperately tried to avoid making a pained expression, and in doing so, made an extra pained expression. Unaware of this, he shuffled on.

Mercie trekked on threw the underbrush, in her worn sneakers she decided to go it four footed. It made traveling easier but she regretted that Auggy couldn't do the same. He'd surely be less wobble on four legs rather than two.

Seeing that Tabor had gone silent, Molly grew concerned. "Hey- are you alright?" she asked seriously, bowing her head so that she could get a good look at his face.

"Auh, yeah. I'm ok," Tabor responded, feeling embarrassed that it was so clear he was bothered. "So, we're destroying it now?"

Molly turned and looked at the machine, "I think that would be best. If it's just you and me now, we should get moving."
